Dr. Reyes-Heroles holds a Degree in Economics from the Autonomous Institute of Technology of Mexico, ITAM, and he studied law at the UNAM. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

  • Director General of Petróleos Mexicanos (2006-2009).
  • Member of various boards of directors such as Walmart Mexico and Banamex Citigroup (2001-2006).
  • Ambassador of Mexico to the United States of America (1997-2000).
  • Secretary of Energy and Chairman of the boards of directors of PEMEX and CFE, among other organizations (1995-1997).
  • Director General, Banobras (1994).
  • Mexico’s representative to the Eminent Persons Group of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC (1993-1994).
  • Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs (1989-1990).
  • Director General, Tax Planning (1983-1988).
  • President of Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party Committee (1994).
  • Professor of graduate and undergraduate economics courses (ITAM). Academic Coordinator, Department of Economics (Universidad Iberoamericana). Academic responsible for the Public Finance specialization (INAP).
  • Member of the boards of directors of companies such as Energy Intelligence Group (EI), Deutsche Bank América Latina, Morgan Stanley Energy Partners, Mitsui de México, and Centro Mario Molina A.C. He currently serves as a board member of Banco Santander México.
  • He served a member of the Board of Trustees of Universidad Iberoamericana, and as president of the Tagle Foundation Board of Trustees. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Fundación Gonzalo Río Arronte and chairs the Water Committee at this foundation. Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Water Advisory Council.
